Mercantile Bank PLC is shifting its focus from corporate lending to providing more loans to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), retail, and agriculture to include unbanked people in the financial system. The bank aims to support those interested in business but lacking funds, emphasizing smart banking and technological advancements.
Mercantile Bank has introduced online, SMS, and internet banking, and implemented the “TEMENOS T24” platform for real-time banking. In 2023, the bank reduced its non-performing loan ratio to 6.08 percent from 7.9 percent the previous year through effective risk management and recovery practices.
To foster financial inclusion, the bank established a financial inclusion department in 2016, providing credit facilities through two refinance schemes under Bangladesh Bank guidelines. The bank’s commitment to transparency and good governance is reflected in its numerous awards, including the 23rd ICAB National Award and the Elite Quality Recognition Award-2021 by JP Morgan.
