The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is pursuing outstanding dues totaling Tk 976.35 million from 32 International Internet Gateway (IIG) companies. These dues stem from revenue-sharing calculations for undisclosed downstream bandwidth from 2016 to 2023, including VAT and late fees. The BTRC has issued letters to these companies, demanding payment by June 13 or facing regulatory consequences.
However, IIG Forum Secretary General Ahmed Junayed argues that the BTRC’s claims are unjustified due to mismatches in upstream and downstream bandwidth, which he attributes to overlapping data. He suggests a thorough review of calculations to address this discrepancy. Meanwhile, a BTRC official asserts that dues are being collected in accordance with regulations and warns of legal action if payments are not made promptly. This situation mirrors a previous incident where the state-run Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) withheld bandwidth supply due to unpaid dues.
