The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has urged the United Kingdom (UK) to expand its imports from Bangladesh beyond the current focus on ready-made garments (RMG) products. The DCCI president highlighted that over 94% of Bangladesh’s exports to the UK, amounting to USD 5.03 billion, are concentrated in RMG products. He emphasized the need to diversify exports to the UK, as other export items have not yet reached their potential volume.
In the fiscal year 2022-2023, the total bilateral trade between Bangladesh and the UK amounted to USD 5.73 billion, with Bangladesh exporting USD 5.31 billion worth of goods and importing USD 415.32 million from the UK. The UK stands as Bangladesh’s third largest export destination and the second largest foreign investment source after the USA. The DCCI’s call underscores the potential for further growth in trade relations between the two countries.
