In the upcoming fiscal year, the VAT on mobile phone SIM cards may increase by Tk 100 or 50%, from Tk 200 to Tk 300, along with a potential 5% rise in supplementary duty on phone calls and internet usage. Additionally, VAT on LED bulbs and tube lights could escalate from 5% to 15%, as well as on various juices. VAT on cigarette rolling paper, amusement parks, auctioned goods, securities services, and contractor services may increase from 7.5% or 10% to 15%. Supplementary duty on carbonated beverages might surge from 25% to 45%, and on cigarettes, from 58-65% to higher rates. Prices may rise by 5 to 10 rupees. VAT on refrigerators and air conditioners could rise by 5%, while import duty on laptops might reduce from 31% to 20.50%. Source tax on commodities like onion, garlic, peas, rice, and fruits may decrease from 2% to 1%.
