Over 53% of Families Now Own Refrigerators

Industry: Electronics, Home Appliances

The demand for refrigerators in rural areas of Bangladesh has surged due to increased access to electricity and rising household incomes. According to recent statistics, over 53% of households now own refrigerators, up from 45% in 2021. The expansion of power infrastructure has facilitated this growth, with 97.54% of households now connected to the national grid. Despite occasional power outages, the availability of electricity has fueled the demand for refrigerators, especially in villages. Manufacturers are also addressing the issue of power shortages by developing refrigerators with longer-lasting cooling capabilities.

Affordable pricing, with decent-sized fridges available for around 30,000 taka, has made refrigerators more accessible to rural consumers. Additionally, the introduction of inverter technology fridges, known for their energy efficiency, has further encouraged rural households to invest in refrigeration appliances. Overall, the combination of increased electricity access, rising incomes, and affordable pricing has contributed to the growing popularity of refrigerators in rural Bangladesh.
