Bangladesh has climbed six spots to 83rd in the latest global startup index, with Dhaka making a notable leap of 71 places to 140th. The country’s startup ecosystem is seen as a digital treasure in Asia, benefiting from its large internal consumer market and youthful, tech-savvy population. Despite these strengths, challenges persist, including limited access to high-speed internet outside major cities, funding constraints, regulatory complexity, and insufficient global exposure. Both public and private sectors have initiated measures to address these issues, such as the IDEA Project and Startup Bangladesh Limited. To fully unlock its potential, Bangladesh needs to improve internet infrastructure, facilitate corporate venture capital, enact startup-friendly policies, and enhance industry-academia collaboration. This would further bolster the growth and competitiveness of its startup ecosystem on the global stage.
