The government has proposed a special allocation of Tk100 crore for renewable energy development to support Bangladesh’s goal of becoming a developed, prosperous, and sustainable nation by 2041. A long-term master plan aims to import 9,000 MW of electricity from neighboring countries by 2041, with a target of 40% of total power generation from renewable sources. Currently, 1,160 MW of electricity is imported through grid interconnection, and 1,600 MW is sourced from coal-based power plants in India. The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction project will add 2,400 MW to the national grid upon completion, boosting economic development. The proposed national budget for fiscal year 2024-25 is Tk7.97 lakh crore, the largest ever, reflecting efforts to combat inflation and advance the country’s economy. This marks the 54th budget and the 25th under the Awami League government, with a focus on building a happy, prosperous, developed, and smart Bangladesh.
