Bangladesh’s ICT sector leaders have praised the government’s decision to extend the tax exemption for the sector by three years in the FY 2024-25 budget. At a press conference organized by BASIS, BACCO, ISPAB, and E-CAB, BASIS, BACCO, ISPAB and E-CAB President lauded the move. They emphasized that this exemption will significantly contribute to the sector’s growth and help build Smart Bangladesh, impacting education, healthcare, agriculture, banking, and export-oriented manufacturing. Ahmed noted that local entrepreneurs currently hold only 10% of the $20 million cloud service and web hosting market and warned that taxing these services could hinder domestic growth. The leaders stressed the need for continued policy support to achieve self-reliance in the ICT sector.
