In Q1 2024, deposits in No-Frills Accounts (NFAs) in Bangladesh increased to Tk 47.91 billion, reflecting a 4.94% rise from the previous quarter and a 32.38% annual growth, as reported by Bangladesh Bank. The number of Tk 10/50/100 accounts grew to 27.26 million, showing a 1.04% quarterly and 2.73% annual increase. Credit to NFA holders reached Tk 7.64 billion, while foreign remittances through these accounts rose to Tk 6.87 billion, up 1.84% from the previous quarter.
State-owned commercial banks led in opening NFAs, with 14.37 million accounts (52.71%), followed by specialized banks (24.72%) and private commercial banks (22.57%). Notably, deposits in NFAs for RMG workers increased by 3.45% quarterly and 20.94% annually. However, deposits in School Banking Accounts (SBAs) dropped to Tk 21.96 billion, down 12.08% from the previous quarter. Farmers, social safety net beneficiaries, and the extreme poor were the major holders of NFAs.
