Prices of green chillies in Dhaka’s retail markets remain high at Tk300-360 per kg, despite reduced demand post-Eid. Other vegetables like cucumbers, bitter gourd, tomatoes, and ridge gourd exceed Tk100 per kg. Onion prices have risen by Tk10-14 per kg since Eid, now selling at Tk90-100 for domestic and Tk100-110 for imported varieties. The price hike is attributed to decreased vegetable supplies after Eid, exacerbated by weather issues like drought and floods. Imported tomatoes contribute to the high prices, and overall vegetable costs are elevated due to low supply and reduced customer demand. Meanwhile, potato prices remain stable at Tk65 per kg retail. Poultry prices have seen a slight increase, with broiler chicken now at Tk180-200 per kg and Sonali chicken priced at Tk320-350 per kg. Brown eggs are selling for Tk150-160 per dozen, while white eggs are slightly cheaper at Tk145-150 per dozen. Concerns have been raised about potential profiteering among traders despite lower demand, emphasizing the need for better market monitoring and supervision.
