Dozens of scam-affected e-commerce companies in Bangladesh, including Eorange Shop, owe an estimated Tk 1.25 billion to their clients. The refund process is progressing slowly. Data from the Directorate of National Consumers’ Rights Protection indicates that 34 online shopping platforms owe a total of Tk 5.34 billion to customers. As of June 13, 2024, around 15 companies have refunded over Tk 4.87 billion to 67,070 clients. However, more than a dozen companies, such as Needs, Twenty-four TKT, and Eorange, have yet to start refunding. The refund initiative, which started in January 2022, is expected to accelerate, with hopes that the remaining amount will be refunded within the next few months. Payment gateways and service providers like Nagad, bKash, Software Shop (SSL), ShurjoMukhi, Foster Corporation, and United Commercial Bank are facilitating the refunds.
