SAARC Currency Swap Framework for 2024-27 Launched by India

Economic Tag: Forex
India’s RBI has launched a SAARC Currency Swap Framework for 2024-27, introducing a new INR Swap Window worth Rs 25,000 crore to support member countries’ currencies. This initiative aims to bolster financial stability within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Additionally, separate swap agreements in US Dollar and Euro totaling $2 billion have been set up. The framework allows SAARC nations to access these swap facilities by signing bilateral agreements with the RBI, providing backup funding for short-term foreign exchange needs and addressing potential balance of payment crises.
