The Oman government has reopened its labor market to Bangladeshi nationals across 12 categories, including physicians, engineers, nurses, and teachers. They plan to legalize 96,000 illegal Bangladeshi workers and are considering waiving fines for these expatriates. The announcement follows a meeting between the State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Ambassador of Oman to Bangladesh. Discussions included the potential establishment of a technical training center dedicated to Oman’s workforce demands. Currently, skilled workers receive visas, with a proposal pending to also send unskilled workers through a working committee. Both countries are likely to convene a joint working group meeting soon. Oman had previously imposed a temporary visa ban for Bangladeshi nationals, which was effective until October 31, 2023.
