The European Union has allocated €400,000 (approximately Tk50 million) to support flood and landslide relief efforts in northeastern Bangladesh and the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. This funding will assist the most affected areas, providing essential household items, food, cash assistance, medical services, and repairing water points and shelters.
€150,000 will be channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to deliver multi-sectoral humanitarian services. The EU’s contribution aims to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure safety during the ongoing monsoon season.
This aid is part of the EU’s broader humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh, which totals over €27.8 million this year, addressing impacts from tropical cyclone Remal, heatwaves, and fires in the Rohingya camps. Recent severe flooding has affected 2.5 million people, with 1.6 million stranded in Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Moulvibazar, and over 1,200 landslides causing at least 10 deaths in Cox’s Bazar.
