Bangladesh will experience a 12-hour Internet disruption due to submarine cable maintenance. These internet outages resulted from scheduled repairs on Singapore’s SEA-ME-WE 4 underwater cable system. It is a 12-hour maintenance, which will last from 6:01 AM to 6:00 PM and affect services that connect Cox’s Bazar to Singapore via this cable.
Bangladesh’s internet use has risen to 5,500 Gbps, and more than half rely on international terrestrial connections from India. Submarine cables play a vital role, with SEA-ME-WE 4 (recently upgraded to 3,800Gbps), SEA-ME-WE 5 (offering 1,700Gbps), and the future expansion planned for the new submarine line SEA-ME-WE 6 (estimated to deliver 13,200Gbps by 2025) serving Bangladesh from 2025. The maintenance may cause temporary internet service disruptions during the indicated timeframe.
