Bangladesh Bank will publish its monetary policy statement (MPS) online on July 18, deviating from the traditional press conference format. This decision aims to avoid potential boycotts by economic reporters. Typically, the central bank holds press conferences where officials explain policy issues and answer questions. However, the MPS for July-December FY 2024-25 will be updated online instead. The shift follows restrictions imposed by the central bank on journalists’ access to cover the MPS unveiling, leading to a boycott by the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF). The ERF demands hassle-free access for journalists, rejecting the current system where entry is permitted only at scheduled times. The boycott will continue until these demands are met. The MPS will be available online at 3:00 pm on July 18.
