Recently, Bangladesh’s wheat market saw a significant decline after global supply issues eased. Prices dropped by Tk 100 per maund within a month at Khatunganj, with Canadian wheat selling at Tk 1,420-1,430 per maund and Russian/Indian wheat at Tk 1,320 per maund. This reduction led to a decrease of at least Tk 3 per kg in open flour prices, now retailing at Tk 40 per kg, while packaged flour remains higher at Tk 45-65 per kg. The stability in flour prices contrasts with regular fluctuations in open brands. The global wheat market’s instability, primarily due to the Russia-Ukraine war disrupting Black Sea exports, previously caused price volatility. Now, increased production from various countries has alleviated supply concerns, lowering wheat prices in Bangladesh. Business owners and consumers in Chittagong note that while rice prices rise, the stable flour market provides relief with prices at their lowest in years.
