Onion prices in Dhaka have surged by 33% in the past month, reaching Tk110-120 per kg from Tk80-90 per kg. This increase aligns with a 40% duty imposed by India on onion exports and rising prices within India. Other commodity prices like rice, potato, and vegetables have also remained high, attributed to recent floods and continuous rains. In Dhaka markets, domestic and imported onions are priced at Tk110-120 per kg, with wholesalers selling domestic onions at Tk110 per kg and Indian onions at Tk100 per kg. Vegetable prices exceed Tk100 per kg for most varieties, with green chillies reaching Tk260-320 per kg. Potato prices remain stable at Tk65 per kg retail. Rice prices have increased by Tk2-4 per kg. Broiler chicken prices have risen to Tk170-180 per kg, Sonali chicken to Tk320-340 per kg, and eggs to Tk135-150 per dozen. While some spice prices have slightly declined, ginger remains at Tk280-300 per kg, and garlic at Tk200-220 per kg. Cardamom prices are high, retailing at Tk3,200-3,600 per kg. Cumin, cloves, and cinnamon show similar patterns, with respective retail prices of Tk750-800, Tk1,600, and Tk560-600 per kg.
