In the capital’s market, the price of desi onions is currently 110 to 120 taka per kilogram, a 77%increase from a year ago and a 31 percent increase in one month. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) reports that this surge is partly due to recent heavy rains disrupting supply. Local wholesale shops sell onions at 100 to 108 taka per kilogram, with retail prices at 110 to 120 taka. Indian onions are priced at 95 to 100 taka per kilogram wholesale. Imported onions, including Indian ones, are sold at 110 to 120 taka per kilogram, up from 85 to 90 taka a month ago and 40 to 50 taka a year ago, marking a 156 percent annual increase. Egg and rice prices have also risen, while prices for potatoes, ginger, cumin, and cloves have slightly decreased. Green chili prices remain high.
