Bangladesh is struggling to receive LNG cargoes for regasification due to operational halts at Summit LNG Terminal in Moheshkhali following accidents. A spot cargo vessel carrying 3.36 million MMBTu of LNG has been stranded for 10 days, and another delivery has been deferred. The delays are causing fiscal penalties for the government. The first stranded cargo was purchased from Excelerate Energy at $13.55 per MMBTu, while the deferred cargo from Total Energies Gas and Power Ltd was bought at $12.58 per MMBTu. Previous technical issues at Summit’s FSRU led to the cancellation of four June deliveries, saving the government around $150 million. The terminal suffered damage from cyclone Remal and a subsequent accident upon its return from repairs.
