Islami Bank Bangladesh has rejected a Tk 548 crore cheque from Top Ten Trading Company due to concerns over the company’s legitimacy and the tumultuous current environment. The bank’s Khatunganj corporate branch in Chattogram flagged the transaction, especially since the company’s contact number was found switched off. Allegations have surfaced that Deputy Managing Director Md Akiz Uddin and his associates might be involved in this attempted withdrawal. Uddin, who was also the personal secretary of S Alam Group’s chairman, has been absent from work since recent political unrest. The bank had previously rejected a similar large withdrawal attempt from a company linked to S Alam Group. Additionally, internal protests have emerged over staff benefits and appointments, leading to the resignation of Additional Managing Director Muhammad Qaisar Ali.
