The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the former chairman of Padma Bank over allegations of seizing control of the bank and embezzling Tk 800 crore from the stock market. The investigation is based on claims that he, with the help of high-ranking police and intelligence officials, unlawfully took over Padma Bank and misappropriated significant funds. The ACC has requested information from various government agencies, including Bangladesh Bank, as part of the inquiry. Additionally, the former chairman is linked to multiple businesses, including asset management, mobile towers, power, luxury hotels, a private university, and media. He resigned from Padma Bank in January 2024, citing health reasons.
