Green chili prices in Dhaka spiked to Tk400 per kilogram due to a supply shortage. Retail prices ranged from Tk350 to Tk400, while wholesale prices jumped from Tk220 to Tk320 per kilogram overnight. The price increase is attributed to limited summer production and reduced imports caused by political instability. Traders noted that the situation is improving as trade normalizes at land ports. The Consumers Association of Bangladesh has called for transparency in import costs and price controls. In FY’23, Bangladesh produced 0.656 million tonnes of green chili, with a significant decrease in summer production.
