The Bangladesh Civil Service (Taxation) Association has urged that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman be appointed from within its experienced members, stressing the importance of having a leader with deep revenue management knowledge. They also called for the tax department to remain apolitical and for efforts to recover illegally smuggled money. In a meeting at the NBR Bhawan, officials emphasized that the appointment of an inexperienced chairman has weakened the NBR’s effectiveness, posing challenges to revenue collection crucial for building a new Bangladesh. Earlier, Customs, Taxation, and VAT Department officials protested at the NBR building, demanding the current chairman’s resignation and staging a strike due to his inactivity over the past two days.
