Following a meeting between the NBR and FBCCI, new agreements have emerged. FBCCI presented a list of complaints and issues related to harassment by taxmen. They also called for the refinement of contradictory laws, the establishment of hotlines for immediate resolution of harassment complaints, and the digitization of tax and VAT collection to enhance efficiency. Additionally, FBCCI sought improved relations with NBR to better facilitate Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes.
In response, the NBR chief announced plans to implement an automated scrutiny system for auditing taxpayers’ files, which will eliminate human intervention. He also mentioned the formation of three task forces to amend, refine, and update tax and VAT laws. Furthermore, the NBR pledged to remain vigilant against any harassment of businesses by taxmen.
