Recent floods in Chattogram have submerged 23,991 hectares of farmland, causing Tk394.15 crore in damage to agriculture. Affected are at least 1,61,371 farmers, with significant impacts on Aman, Aus, and autumn vegetables across 15 upazilas and parts of the city. The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) reports that out of 1,02,200 hectares of Aman cultivation, 45,222 hectares were affected, with 13,831 hectares completely damaged and 31,391 hectares partially damaged, resulting in Tk251.63 crore in losses. For Aus crops, 8,939 hectares of the 34,199 hectares planted were submerged, with 889 hectares entirely and 8,050 hectares partially damaged, leading to Tk24.33 crore in losses. Autumn vegetables suffered severe damage, with 1,238 hectares of the 5,070 hectares cultivated land completely and 1,034 hectares partially damaged, causing Tk108.16 crore in losses. Additionally, 798 hectares of Aman seedbeds were submerged, leading to Tk7.73 crore in losses. Other crops such as ginger, turmeric, sugarcane, and betel leaf also faced losses totaling Tk2.54 crore.
