Customers can withdraw a maximum of Tk 5 lakh from banks, up from Tk 4 lakh the previous week, as part of a security measure from Bangladesh Bank. This limit follows an increase from the previous week’s cap of Tk 3 lakh. The central bank has also instructed banks to report any suspicious transactions immediately. While cash withdrawals are limited, customers can still transfer any amount and conduct digital transactions. This measure aims to curb the use of withdrawn funds for illegal activities and terrorism. The decision comes amid increased pressure for cash withdrawals, particularly from political and business circles linked to the current government.
