Recent floods and heavy rains in the Chattogram Agricultural Zone have caused significant damage to five districts—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur—resulting in a financial loss of Tk 1,651 crore. According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), 1,93,045 hectares of cropland were affected, with 70,137 hectares completely destroyed. The damage was due to excessive rainfall, hill slope erosion, and water from the Muhuri River breach, impacting nearly 7.75 lakh farming families. Key losses included Tk 961.77 crore for Aman plantation and Tk 394.34 crore for autumn vegetables. District-wise, Chattogram faced a Tk 391.86 crore loss on 58,492 hectares, Noakhali saw Tk 466.27 crore in losses on 43,601 hectares, and Feni suffered a Tk 451.20 crore loss with nearly 100% of cropland damaged. The ministry is now considering rehabilitation and compensation measures, with further decisions to be made after the floodwaters recede.
