The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) appointed seven independent directors to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) board. The new directors are KAM Majedur Rahman (Maldives Islamic Bank chairman), Major General (retd) Mohammad Quamruzzaman (Army Institute of Business Administration), Nahid Hossain (Financial Institutions Division additional secretary), Brigadier General Md Mafizul Islam Rashed, Mohammed Helal Uddin (Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific), Syed Hammadul Karim (former Metlife Bangladesh general manager), and Mohammed Ishaque Miah (Bangladesh Data Centre and Disaster Recovery Site Limited MD and CEO).
This decision follows the resignation of all previous independent directors on August 22, after a significant political shift in the country. The BSEC appointed these directors to comply with Section 24 of the Demutualisation Act, 2013, and other relevant laws, as the stock exchange’s nomination and remuneration committee no longer exists.
