Foreign commercial banks in Bangladesh have the highest female representation, with 27.73% of their workforce being women. Private banks have 16.37% female staff, while state-owned banks have 16.76%. Overall, women make up 13.58% of board members in all banks.
In non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), women represent only 17% of employees. Despite progress in employee benefits like increased daycare facilities, training and travel support have decreased. Fahmida Khatun from the Centre for Policy Dialogue highlighted the need for better working conditions and policies to boost female representation and advancement in banking.
