The recent floods in Chattogram division have severely impacted the poultry sector, causing substantial losses. Thousands of poultry farms in Feni, Noakhali, Cumilla, and Lakshmipur districts were submerged, resulting in the death of 7.5 million chickens, including broilers, Sonali, and layer chickens. This has led to a sharp decline in egg and meat production, driving up local prices.
The Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) reports that egg production has halved from 4 million to 2 million per day in the affected districts, while overall egg production has decreased by 5%. Meat supply has dropped by over 8% due to the loss of 7.5 million chickens. The total financial impact on the poultry sector is estimated at Tk 567 crore, with significant losses from eggs, feed, and infrastructure.
