The newly appointed Country Director for Bangladesh at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), emphasized the country’s strong potential in agriculture and rural transformation. Achancho expressed his excitement about collaborating with the government and partners to strengthen agricultural systems and improve lives.
In his new role, the new Country Director aims to advocate for government programmes focusing on climate resilience in rural communities, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and improving access to finance, technology, and markets for smallholder farmers. His previous experience includes serving as IFAD country director for several African countries.
Since 1978, IFAD has supported Bangladesh’s rural development, mobilizing $3.9 billion across 37 projects, benefiting over 11 million families. Currently, IFAD has $519 million invested in six projects in Bangladesh, implemented by key government agencies to foster sustainable rural livelihoods and climate resilience.
