The interim government has approved importing 40 megawatts of hydroelectric power from Nepal. The cost is set at Tk 8.17 per unit, which includes Tk 7.32 for power, Tk 0.76 for transmission, and Rs 0.0595 for trading margins. Total costs are estimated at Tk 130 crore annually or Tk 650 crore over five years.
The Finance Division has raised concerns over flexible transmission line charges imposed by India, arguing this could affect long-term project viability. The missing file from the previous administration has delayed the tripartite agreement, which was due to be signed in September. Opinions from the National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh Bank, and the Financial Institutions Division are still awaited.
