The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed over $200 million to aid Bangladesh’s development, with a focus on youth empowerment, strengthening democracy, and improving governance. The agreement, signed between USAID and Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division (ERD), aligns with the interim government’s priorities of inclusive growth and economic stability.
A senior USAID official highlighted the focus on enhancing health services, governance, and opportunities for the country’s youth. The $202 million grant is part of USAID’s broader $954 million pledge for Bangladesh for the 2021-2026 period, of which $425 million has already been provided.
The US has been a key partner of Bangladesh since 1972, contributing over $8 billion in various sectors, including health, education, and climate change. In a separate meeting, Bangladeshi officials discussed financial sector reforms, export diversification, and recovering money laundered abroad.
