The Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) leaders have urged the central bank to prevent defaulters from filing writ petitions that delay loan recovery efforts and the classification of non-performing loans (NPLs). Led by the chairman of Dhaka Bank, the BAB made this request during a meeting with the Bangladesh Bank Governor. Currently, defaulters often file writ petitions to challenge loan classifications, delaying legal proceedings. In response, the Governor said the central bank would consider necessary steps and may consult with the attorney general to streamline bad loan recovery. The BAB also called for more involvement of lenders in policy-making and measures to expose money launderers, including travel restrictions for defaulters.
