Starting next fiscal year, taxpayers will be able to proactively submit their returns from July 1, according to the NBR Chairman. This follows a delay in online return submissions this year, which began on September 9. Khan, speaking at a press briefing at NBR headquarters, highlighted that the NBR’s initiative aims to streamline digital submissions and reduce the need for in-person meetings with tax officials. Although the NBR launched an online portal in 2016, it faced issues and was relaunched in 2021. The NBR is now prepared to handle approximately 10 million taxpayers.
Last fiscal year saw around 500,000 online submissions and 3.8 million manual ones. The NBR hopes to increase online submissions to 1.5 million this year. The Finance Adviser emphasized expanding the tax net and improving service quality, praising the online system for enhancing transparency.
