Deposits in no-frills accounts (NFAs) dropped by 1.45% in April-June 2024 compared to the previous quarter, according to Bangladesh Bank data, though they rose 14.31% year-on-year. Total NFA deposits reached Tk 47.21 billion, down from Tk 47.91 billion in the previous quarter. NFAs, primarily opened by low-income individuals, students, and street children, saw their total number grow to 32.22 million by June 2024, a 1.88% quarterly increase. Tk 10 accounts under social safety nets and farmers’ accounts made up the largest portions of these deposits. Remittances and school banking also contributed to NFA growth, with remittances rising 6.55% year-on-year.
