The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) is facing significant delays in constructing 34 buffer warehouses for fertiliser storage. Originally budgeted at Tk 1,983 crore, the project’s cost has surged by 25.2%, reaching Tk 2,482 crore. Despite being scheduled for completion by June 2025, progress has been slow, with only 12.98% of the revised budget spent and 33.5% physical progress, mainly in land acquisition. Delays in land acquisition, tender processes, and other issues have hindered progress, with land still being acquired in four districts. Only two vehicles have been purchased, and key project staff have resigned due to delayed salaries. The project faces further setbacks due to invalidated tenders, and the tender process remains incomplete for 24 out of 34 sites. The delays raise concerns about the project’s management and procurement capabilities.
