In July and August, Bangladesh’s four telecom operators collectively lost 3.65 million mobile subscribers and nearly 2.2 million internet subscribers, as reported by the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC). By the end of August, the total number of active mobile subscribers in the country fell to 192.43 million, a decline of 1.82 million in July and 1.83 million in August from 196.09 million in June. The subscriber count had been steadily increasing for five months prior to this downturn. Despite the higher number of mobile subscribers than the population, the actual number of individual users is significantly lower due to a regulation allowing each person to hold up to 15 SIM cards. Among the operators, the largest one reported a decrease of approximately 450,000 subscribers, dropping its total to 85.08 million. Banglalink experienced the highest loss, with around 2.01 million users leaving, reducing its count to 42.47 million. Robi Axiata lost 1.15 million subscribers, bringing its total to 58.36 million, while state-owned Teletalk saw a slight decline of about 30,000 subscribers.
