Linde Bangladesh has generated Tk910.61 crore from the sale of its welding electrodes business to ESAB Group, as detailed in its audited financial statement for January to July 2024. The company sold its subsidiary, Linde Industries Pvt Limited, recovering Tk138.29 crore of its investment, resulting in a capital gain of Tk772.31 crore.
After paying Tk115 crore in capital gains tax at a 15% rate, Linde Bangladesh’s net profit surged 45-fold to Tk631.67 crore during this period, with earnings per share (EPS) increasing to Tk415.08. Following the sale, the company declared an unprecedented 4,100% interim cash dividend, amounting to Tk632 crore distributed among shareholders.
Linde Bangladesh, established in 1973, began its welding electrode business in 1979 and has since expanded its production capabilities significantly. In 2023, the company reported revenues of Tk270 crore from this segment, compared to Tk142 crore from its gas business.
