Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman alleged that Bangladesh Bank and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) facilitated financial corruption and money laundering. Speaking at a seminar, he estimated $12-15 billion is illicitly moved out of the country annually, driven by methods like trade misinvoicing and visa fraud. He highlighted the need for structural reforms and legal changes, along with cooperation between local and international agencies, to reclaim laundered funds and restore transparency in Bangladesh’s financial system.
