Bangladesh’s inward remittances reached $2.4 billion in September 2024, an 8.09% increase from the previous month and a significant 50.31% rise compared to September 2023, according to Bangladesh Bank. Agrani Bank recorded the highest growth among top banks, with remittance inflows surging by 232% to $322.12 million from $96.89 million in August. Islami Bank Bangladesh remained the top remittance receiver with $402.78 million in September, slightly down from $405.23 million in August. Trust Bank ranked third, handling $245.54 million in September, a decline from $290.31 million the month prior.
The central bank emphasized the critical role of remittances in bolstering foreign exchange reserves and poverty alleviation. The report also highlighted the contribution of manpower exports in reducing unemployment and strengthening economic resilience. The remarkable growth in remittance inflows underlines their increasing importance in supporting the nation’s economic stability amidst global uncertainties.
