The Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) recorded a 12.14% rise in revenue collection during July-September of FY2024-25 compared to the same period in FY24, reaching Tk 63.01 billion. This growth contrasts with a 6.07% decline in overall tax collection by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Strong monitoring and proactive measures by the LTU, such as one-on-one meetings with 100 corporate taxpayers, ensured compliance. Large contributors, including banks, telecom companies, and tobacco firms, remained steady in tax payments, although challenges from six private banks in financial distress limited further growth.
Advance taxes from individuals and corporates played a significant role, bolstered by the September 15 withholding tax submission deadline. Source taxes accounted for a major portion of LTU’s revenue, contributing 45% in FY23. While corporate taxpayers dominate the LTU, individual taxpayers’ contributions remain below 2%. Officials emphasized the leadership of the new NBR chairman in driving domestic revenue without hindering businesses.
