At the Bay of Bengal Conversation organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) in Dhaka on November 17, 2024, the Indian High Commissioner emphasized the enduring stability of India-Bangladesh relations, noting that despite political turbulence in Bangladesh, their bilateral ties continue to thrive across trade, transport, energy connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted that these multifaceted relations, while facing irritants, remain resilient, driven by mutual interdependence and shared prosperity.
The High Commissioner pointed to recent developments such as the launch of a 40 MW power transmission from Nepal to Bangladesh via the Indian grid and the enhancement of infrastructure at the Petrapole-Benapole Integrated Check Post as examples of sustained progress. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to working alongside Bangladesh to foster peace, security, and development, ensuring that their partnership benefits the people of both nations, while also supporting regional integration under frameworks like BIMSTEC.
