The High Court of Bangladesh has ordered the formation of a high-level inquiry committee, including international energy and legal experts, to reevaluate all electricity agreements with India’s Adani Group. The court directed the cabinet secretary to establish the committee within a month and submit its report in two months. Additionally, the court issued a rule asking authorities why the agreements should not be canceled due to unfavorable terms. Bangladesh has been importing electricity from Adani’s 1,600MW plant in Jharkhand, but the cost of electricity is significantly higher than that from other sources. Bangladesh currently owes Adani $850 million.
