Bangladesh Bank (BB) has raised the foreign currency endorsement limit at money exchange houses for travelers to $2,000, doubling the previous cap of $1,000. The new policy, announced on November 19, 2024, aims to ease currency access for Bangladeshis traveling abroad. A senior BB official stated that travelers could now purchase up to $2,000 in cash from money changers, increasing convenience. The total annual limit remains unchanged at $12,000, with travelers still needing to obtain additional currency from banks.
The revised policy excludes Hajj pilgrims, who can access foreign currency according to the government’s Hajj guidelines without restrictions. BB emphasized that the adjustment is part of broader efforts to streamline currency accessibility for travelers while maintaining specific exemptions for religious purposes. This decision comes as part of the central bank’s ongoing measures to enhance financial support for outbound Bangladeshi citizens.
