On November 21, 2024, the Advisers’ Council Committee on Government Purchase approved multiple procurement proposals to meet the country’s growing demand for LNG, fertilizers, and rice. The finance adviser presided over the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Two LNG cargoes will be imported from Singapore-based M/S Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, costing Tk 6.863 billion and Tk 6.802 billion, with per-MMBtu prices of $14.55 and $14.42, respectively. The committee also sanctioned Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation’s (BCIC) procurement of 120,000 tonnes of granular and prilled urea fertilizer from UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia at an approximate cost of Tk 5.18 billion, and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation’s (BADC) purchase of 110,000 tonnes of MOP fertilizer from Russia and Canada at Tk 3.823 billion.
Additionally, the Directorate General of Food will import 50,000 tonnes of non-aromatic boiled rice from India at Tk 2.829 billion, while contractors will supply 43.614 million class 4 and 5 textbooks for 2025 at Tk 2.11 billion.
