Agricultural loan disbursement in Bangladesh dropped by 21.48% in the first four months of FY25, reaching Tk 93.91 billion, down from Tk 119.6 billion in FY24. In October FY25, loans totaled Tk 29.33 billion, reflecting a decline from Tk 31.35 billion in October FY24. While banks are encouraged to use their networks for disbursement, farm credit recovery increased by 12.58% to Tk 123.22 billion. Experts emphasize the importance of boosting agricultural production to ensure food security. Farmers access loans at rates of 8% from banks or higher, up to 30%, via NGOs, prompting a regulatory push for better loan terms.
