Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) has suspended six officials for alleged irregularities in loans disbursed to S Alam Group, including three from its Khatunganj branch, which accounted for Tk 42,000 crore of the Tk 73,113 crore loans extended to the group. Preliminary investigations revealed procedural violations in loan approvals. Multiple bodies, including Bangladesh Bank, BFIU, and ACC, are probing the irregularities, alongside internal and independent audits. Earlier, IBBL dismissed top executives linked to S Alam Group, including deputy managing directors and senior officers. Allegations also include illicit recruitment and transfer activities involving bank officials tied to the group’s chairman.
