Port Workers Demand Cancellation of PCT Lease

Industry: Shipping

The Chattogram Port Workers and Staff Federation, affiliated with Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, has demanded the cancellation of the lease agreement with Saudi firm RSGT for operating the Patenga Container Terminal (PCT), urging its management by the port authority instead. At a press conference in Chattogram, they opposed privatization moves for other facilities, including New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) and Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT). The 22-year concession deal with RSGT was signed by the previous Awami League government, while the interim government is pursuing UAE firm DP World for NCT operations. A procession to the CPA chairman’s office is planned for December 22.
